about

Conscious Route returns with a new single, ‘Jazz Unsung,’ alongside Scottish Asian producer Supermann on da Beat and featuring Glasgow’s P Caso and Edinburgh-based alternative singer Bridget Quinn. The track is laced with a minor-key piano line that delivers a strong jazz aesthetic. This is perfectly matched by Bridget Quinn’s blues-laden vocal delivery as she opens the track and eases her way between the rhymes from P Caso and Conscious Route. The laid back but melancholy feel is lifted through the verses with a stuttering, off-beat break that piques attention as the MCs bring their emotive yet lyrically deft wordplay to bear. With a smooth, relaxed, grown-up and classy feel, ‘Jazz Unsung’ shows that hip-hop and jazz still make excellent bedfellows in 2023. Release date 15.09.2023.

Conscious Route is a rapper, MC, poet and singer-songwriter who was born in London before moving to Edinburgh over a decade ago. In 2020, he unleashed the collaborative ‘Lost Routes’ album, alongside producer True Note, which went on to receive a 4-star review in The Scotsman upon its release. In addition to this, three of his more recent releases, ‘Trojan,’ ‘Orphans,’ and his feature on ‘Dragons Jaw’ by Post Coal Prom Queen, were all named as tracks of the week on BBC Introducing Scotland. The Sensory EP, a collaboration with producer Toni Smoke, also saw 2 tracks receive worldwide airplay on Rapstation 365 radio station, played by UK’s DJ Shorty on London Chip Shop show, then re-spun by the legendary Chuck D in the USA. Elsewhere, Conscious Route’s release, ‘Dripping Sauce’ with producer Subject 13, saw hyped reviews and worldwide attention on YORAPS.COM & DMCWORLD.NET. His ‘Pyramid EP,’ with shortlisted Scottish Artist of the Year, Scott Bathgate, also reached the international stage, with airplay in USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and Europe.

Closer to home, Conscious Route’s ‘Lost Routes Flip tape’ was supported by Tom Robinson’s BBC 6 Music ‘Fresh On The Net BBC Introducing’ mixtape show and he has seen his music named among the Herald’s top 100 Scottish tunes of the year. Since then, Conscious Route’s music continues to get support from the BBC – with ‘Frontline’ making it to BBC Introducing Scotland’s Best Track of the Week show, with BBC6 music curator, Neil March saying, “Imaginative and Inventive UK Hip Hop crafted by one of the most exciting upcoming voices of the UK scene,” while BBC Introducing Scotland’s Phoebe I-H & Shereen Cutkelvin recently played the track, ‘Galactic’ on their show, with Shereen saying, “Can I just say this trio together are absolute fire! I mean it just all works so perfectly together, it’s by far the best track I heard here, like his just taken the bar so high, his knocked it off to a whole other room.”
He has also stayed active on the live music scene, supporting names such as Dabbla, Dead Prez, Marlowe, Pan Amsterdam, Wiki, Jelani Blackman and Onyx to name a few…

Supermann on da Beat is a Scottish disabled South Asian producer and DJ, who brings a blend of influences across genres from hip-hop to metal and pop to create unique tracks without borders. In just over 3 years, Supermann has hit some huge milestones in the industry, including a headline DJ set as part of Amplify, over 90k streams, supporting Grim Sickers and promoting local artists regularly through his platform, ‘Hip-Hop Scotland,’ and is fast becoming one of the hottest producers in the UK. With radio play across Scotland, including 1Xtra BBC Introducing and support across the scene, things are looking up for the multi-genre producer.

In addition, Supermann is a content creator with a passion for supporting underrepresented artists - typically raising awareness of issues facing disabled people - as an A&R at Imvaizemusicgroup and the CCO of Hip Hop Scotland – a platform supporting hip-hop influenced artists in the country. Also, as someone with a disability, Supermann is proud to show that anything is possible in a world with a complete under-representation of disabled artists, recently leading a vital campaign asking the UK Government to provide funding to make venues fully accessible.
“A real cornerstone of the Scottish hip-hop community. The barriers he has overcome, most people couldn't perceive" - Darren McGarvey
